February 12 Why Can't I have ADHD?Marketing dollars at work.
Ben's watching TV. Commercial comes on for Concerta. Lots of great kids doing great things: painting, drawing, designing roller coasters. Happy kids. Concerned female voice-over pointing out that you notice your kid's flaws and problems with ADHD but soon, you'll notice their special way of dealing with the world.
BEN: Do I have ADHD, Mama?
MAMA: No, honey. You don't.
BEN: Awww.
He's bummed out he doesn't have ADHD! He's bummed out he doesn't have a special way of looking at the world.
He has no idea what ADHD is, but he wants it.
Thanks, Concerta. Ben's favorite song...Ben's favorite song right now is "Girlfriend" by Avril Lavigne.
For this song to be his favorite, he has to have heard it several times.
Enough times to be able to sing along with it.
To know ALL the words...
To request it. Over and over again.
And to repeat some of the inappropriate words.
It's just worse knowing that we let him listen to the song. "Girlfriend" and "It's Just U and UR Hand Tonight" by Pink.
